Vitor Pereira became the coach of Olympiacos in January of 2015 as he replaced Michel who was fired from the Greek club. Before taking the job in Greece, Pereira had been approached on a number of occasions with managerial positions in the Premier League.
“Olympiacos is announcing the end of its cooperation with manager Michel Gonzalez. The entire family of Olympiacos thanks Michel for his contribution to the club and wishes him every success in his career’’ This was the announcement that was made by the official website of Olympiacos as the Greek club announced the end of their relationship with the Spanish manager Michel Gonzalez.
There were a number of Premier League clubs that launched offers to Vitor Pereira as those English teams made an approach for the Portuguese manager. Everton and Crystal Palace were the squads that displayed most interested in luring Pereira but ultimately failed on doing so.
The owner of Crystal Palace, Steve Parish was the man who sacked Neil Warnock and attempted to turn Vitor Pereira into the new coach of the team and a number of negotiations as well as meetings were done in order to make it happen but Pereira had his eyes set somewhere else as he penned a two and half year long deal with Olympiacos and things have turned out well for him after having won the Greek Super League for the 5th consecutive year with a margin of over 10 points.
Olympiacos even managed to compete in the Champions League as the club finished in the 3rd spot of Group A which wasn’t enough to get into the next stages of the European competition but they still managed to secure a ticket into the Europa League of next season and this is something that Crystal Palace has never managed to do.
The dominance that Olympiacos has established in the Greek League has not slowed down in any way and this is why making a switch to Olympiacos turned out to be a better decision for Vitor Pereira who are not only the favorites of defending their crown but are also contenders to take the Europa League in the upcoming season.
