Marinos Ouzounidis finds himself in quit a difficult situation as the head coach of AEK Athens as not only the results have been going against AEK, but the club hierarchy is also planning to release some of the key players of the team so that the wages bill goes a bit light.
Also because of the very same reason, the club will not be able to provide any money to the coach to go shopping in the mid-season transfer window and try and cover the evident weaknesses of the side. So Ouzoundis has to manage with whatever resources he has got at the moment.
AEK has Xanthi lined up next as they are going to host them tomorrow in the Greek top tier. In normal circumstances, you would think that AEK taking on Xanthi at home would be the firm favorites, but the kind of recent form AEK has shown, not only in the domestic league, but in Europe as well where they had to suffer elimination earlier this week, it seems to be a close contest now and Xanthi’s performance has been up to the mark this season. They are actually occupying a higher spot than AEK in the standings.
The Greek top tier table is led by PAOK at this stage. They have won 10 out of their 11 games so far and are at the top of the pile with a points’ tally of 30 and a goal differential of +15.
