Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is a proud man after his side defeated Group G rivals AEK Athens in the UEFA Europa League last night.
Leicester went into the game knowing that all they needed was three points to confirm them as Group winners, and they ended the night on a high note with their well-deserved victory.
Harvey Barnes and Cengiz Ünder were the scorers for Brendan Roger’s side as they saw off Athens in the final group stage fixture.
Both goals were scored in the first half after a dominant display from The Foxes as they stretched their 100 percent record of winning at home in European games.
Rodgers after the game said he could not ask for more from his players, and said they got what they truly deserved after putting in a remarkable display at the King Power Stadium. He added that he would not have believed that his side would be topping their Europa League Group and stay fourth in the Premier League table.
One would agree with the former Celtic boss though given that his Leicester side has suffered several injuries this season.
Leicester did not need the services of talismanic forward Jamie Vardy as the star striker was left on the bench. Vardy was being rested ahead of him being featured in their Premier League clash this weekend. Another star missing from the match was James Maddison. The English midfielder suffered a minor knee injury and could not feature in the match.
