Following the announcement made by English Premier League club Arsenal that their defender David Luiz will be leaving the club at the end of his contract in June, several clubs have been who wing interest in the Brazil international defender. Luiz has not been able to prove to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta that he is capable of being with the squad ahead of the new season and it looks as though he will be heading for the exit when his contract with the London club expires later this month.
One of the clubs that have expressed interest in signing the former Chelsea defender is the Greek Premier League side, AEK Athens. The Greek club have been monitoring the player’s situation in North London for a while now and have been waiting patiently to make a formal offer for him. They are joined by English side, Southampton as the Saints plan to bolster their backline in the summer transfer window.
The 35-year-old defender now has to choose between taking a pay-cut and remaining in the Premier League or accepting Athens’ offer and move to Greece where he will be earning a bigger salary. With the transfer window just around the corner, he is expected to make a decision as soon as possible.
