Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton claims that he is confident thatApostolosVellios will get his opportunities at the club if he continues to work hard.
Nottingham Forest have made a good start to the season and it is largely down to the club’s incredible strength going forward.
Even though there are plenty of quality forwards at the club, Nottingham Forest have been able to benefit immensely from the presence of Daryl Murphy. The summer signing from Newcastle United caused the club only around £ 2 million, but he has able to score four goals in just seven appearances for the team.
As a result,Warburton has not been able to provide plenty of first-team opportunities forVellios. The Greek international came up with six goals in his first season with Nottingham Forest in the 2016-17 season. He had come from Iraklis for around € 1.2 million. The lack of any first-team minutes with Nottingham Forest this season is starting to threaten his place in the Greek squad for the national team.
His only recent appearance for Nottingham Forest came in the League Cup match against Chelsea and in the game against Shrewsbury Town. He was seen on the bench in the match against Millwall at the start of the season.
Even then,Warburton is confident that the 25-year-old will be able to force his way back into the first-team reckoning if he continues to work hard.“There are a number of forwards here, in Daryl, Jason, Tyler, Ben Brereton – you can only play so many players, there are only 11 shirts. You always have this question of ‘why is he not playing, why is he not involved?’. It is because I can’t play a 5-9-4 formation to get everyone in. Players’ jobs – and Apostolos is doing this – is to work hard so that, when his chance comes along, he is in a position to take it. It is as simple as that,” said the Nottingham Forest manager.
