ALGERIA SET TO NAME NEW NATIONAL TEAM COACH

There are reports that Algeria are set to name a new coach before their crucial game against Nigeria next month.


The North African side sacked their former handler Rajevan Milovan after players’ unrest in the disappointing 1-1 draw against Cameroon. The draw ensured they started theopening 2018 World Cup game in home soil. Many coaches have been linked with the job, but they have all turned them down, citing different concerns, according to reports.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia reportedly turned down an offer to take up the job as well. L’equipe reports that the Frenchman was pencilled as potential replacement for Milovan along with Marc Wilmots, Rolland Courbis, Alain Perrin, Paul Le Guen and others.

Panserraikos looking to improve

Greek club Panserraikos is looking to improve their team after their poor campaign last season.


Indeed the club has failed to reach their objectives last season and they will be hoping that this new season will be different. The coach said that they have already identified some new players and that they are working hard to sign them.

It is believed that the club is interested in signing Ugandan striker Herman NtezaWasswa to boost their attacking options. The player’s agent has revealed that the Greek club has been in contact with him and that they have invited his client to spend some time on trial with the club. He said that the player is considering the offer and that he will give a reply soon.

Herman NtezaWasswa is a 22-year old player that has been playing mainly for the Kampala Capital City Authority team. He just returned after a trial in Kenya with Sofapaka and is now considering the offer from the Greek club. Continue reading Panserraikos looking to improve

PANSERRAIKOS LEAVE OUT HERMAN WASSWA DEAL

Greece Football League side Panserraikos were linked to Uganda international young striker Herman Wasswa, but the deal has been left ignored.


The former Masaka LC and SC Villa striker was a free agent after he decided to ignore the new deal his club Kampala CCA offered him. He wanted a biggest quest, so he was particularly looking out for a fresh challenge. The player’s agent Geoffrey Kayemba confirmed that other clubs were keen on landing the forward this summer, due to his combination of qualities.

There were reports linking Jinja based Uganda Premier League club Bul to the player. Kawowo Sports reported that the agent of the player confirmed that Bul reached out with the hope to land the player, but reported that Wasswa was yet to sign a deal.

“The truth is, Bul just like many other clubs are interested in signing Herman [Wasswa]. But that just that nothing has happened,” Kayemba said. Also, Kayemba confirmed reports linking Wasswa to a move to Greece to play for Panserraikos: “There is also interest from some Lebanese club, and other Ugandan sides but a decision on his next destination will be known soon,” trying not to be too specific.

OLYMPIAKOS IN SHOCK

Olympiakos received a major shock just at the start of a new season after manager Marco Silva announced his resignation with immediate effect. Silva has taken this decision after talking with the club’s board, who have moved in swiftly to appoint Victor Sanchez.

The former Deportivo La Coruna manager will immediately take charge of the club, who are in preparations for the new season. Silva claimed that he has had to take this decision due to personal reasons, but it has been rumoured heavily in Portugal that Silva will be given a job alongside Fernando Santos at the national team level. GREECE DEPUTY SPORTS MINISTER COMPLAINT WITH UEFA

The Deputy Minister of Sport Stavros Kontonis filed a report to the European footballing body over the provocative banner that fans displayed when Albania played Switzerland at the Euro 2016 tournament that is ongoing in France.

The banner read “GREECE IS GUILTY REMEMBER THE GENOCIDE IN CAMARA 100,000 ALBANIAN VICTIMS.”

The banner claimed the country remains guilty over allegations of genocide of Chams, following WWII. The Greek Deputy Minister sent the complaints to UEFA arguing that the banner was “provocative, defamatory, unhistorical and offensive to Greece.” He questioned how it was raised, given the major security concerns and planning. The so-called ‘Cham issue’ was also raised ahead of the recent official visit to Albania by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias. KOSTAS FORTOUNIS EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH OLYMPIAKOS

Kostas Fortounis signed the dotted lines, extending his contract with champions Olympiakos Piraeus.


The deal with will remain valid till the year 2020 successfully shut all speculations over the future of the Greek midfielder when he signed on Friday.

Fortounis, 23, netted 25 goals in 53 games for the club, playing in attacking midfield position. His performance attracted interests from lots of clubs in England with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly tracking him on the back of the best season of his career. On signing the contract Fortounis said:

“I would like to thank the president, I’m delighted that I’ll continue my career here and I’ll give everything to make sure we are always champions and win trophies.”

Fortounis scored twice in 19 games for his country and picked up the Super League’s top scorer with 18 goals this past season. He broke the record when he became only the third player in his club’s history to record double-digit figures for goals and assists in one season. The Greece international was also largely responsible for 43rd league crown victory of the club. This made the club add a high release clause in the new deal to keep him tied with the Erythrolefki. The new deal is offering him roughly €1 million a year, doubling his previous agreement of €400,000. The new release clause is now €20 – €25 million is he decides to leave before 2020.
